Playlist #1!

Updated: Jan 8, 2021

I honestly should be a DeeJay. I have playlists for almost every occasion, mood, season and person. I thought it would be a wonderful idea to talk about some of the playlists I have, had, and will have for everyone! Whether you're mad, sad, need to be motivated, etc. you'll be able to find them here!

The first playlist I want to share with you is one for some moods and activities. Every playlist, song choice, artist, etc. is just my own personal preference. You of course can do any song you want, but maybe some of these songs will inspire you!

A Song To Sing In The Shower: The End (Stars Always Fade) - The Warning: Yes EVERYONE knows by now how much I love this band. I actually have a funny story about this song. My family and I were driving in Illinois, in the country, where I lost service while listening to Spotify. The only song that would play was The End for possibly half an hour straight. But of course I kept listening to it over and over again. While I did somewhat like the song before that, something about listening to it on repeat made me really love it. I always love singing songs that women/girls sing in the shower, or when I'm home alone, because I get to sing at the top of my lungs (not in the shower).

A Song For A Long Drive: Greyhound - Calpurnia: This makes me want to make a plane playlist. Of course I have a road trip playlist, but I ALWAYS listen to this on the plane, in the airport, and on Lyft rides. This song talks about "going to Seattle on the greyhound", talks about going to concerts, missing someone. I always find myself listening to this song mostly when coming home from traveling and going to concerts. It's such a calm song, but is also powerful. Fun fact: this song is actually the first song I EVER learned how to play on guitar.

A Song To Turn All The Way Up: So What! – Jxdn I’m really not one for Tik Tok. Not my thing. I’m not really sure if Jaden Hossler (Jxdn) is exactly “from” Tik Tok, but I’ll be honest and admit I didn’t do research on him at all…. ANYWAY, I hear him CONSTANTLY in my boyfriend’s car, so I’ve pretty much been forced to listen to him. While I wasn’t automatically drawn to him at first, I’ve come to really like this kid? (He’s an Aquarius too, so he gets bonus points) “So What!” features him talking about how he’s broken and in the music video, Travis Barker is on drums. So, I guess that is a win-win situation for me. As much as I want to stay away from Tik-Tokers and preppy white boys in general, I can’t seem to get away from this kid and his music. This track is specifically my favorite of his so far. I scream it in my head at least once a day.

Lyrics that hook me:

“So what? I’m broken and my heart is frozen. All my words are chokin’ I’m so over life”

“It sucks that you’re so pretty”

A Song For When You’re Sad: Take A Bow – Rihanna: One for a couple of decades ago (literally). This song came out in 2008, when I was aged 12, used to listen to it all of the time on my iPod nano, because boys broke my heart back then. But this year, it has a whole new meaning. This year, one of my ex-favorite bands, to not be named, put on a great show to fool me and many others. So, this for them. “When I know you’re only sorry, you got caught.”

Lyrics that hook me: (a lot do)

“Trying to apologize, you’re so ugly when you cry, please just cut it out”

“But you put on quite a show, really had me goin’, now it’s time to go, curtain’s finally closing. That was quite a show, very entertaining. But it’s over now. Go on and take a bow.”

“Oh and the award for the best liar goes to you, for making me believe that you could be faithful to me, let’s hear your speech”

A Song To Fall In Love To: You’re The One – Greta Van Fleet: I know. So cliché. To be expected. This is most likely my favorite song by this band, but it’s so good. So cute. (So sweet, so fine?) The live version just captured my soul the first time I heard it (played after a cover of John Denver’s The Music Is You) When the album version came out as a single right before the album dropped, I was totally in love with it. The background vocals sounded just amazing. The last time I saw Greta Van Fleet at The Fox Theater in Atlanta, I made sure to get a long-ish video of the song. But I didn’t record the whole time, so I could experience it. And I experienced everyone around me singing at the top of their lungs, couples singing it to each other, it almost brought tears to my eyes. (Seriously, how have I never cried at a concert??) This might be my favorite song ever. Who knows.

Lyrics that hook me:

“Well I almost lost my mind” – Josh during the live version

“Girl I’d be flying if you stood yourself and said”

“You’re the one I want, you’re the one I need, you’re the one I had, so come on back to me”

“Babe, you’re so young and pretty, but you’re evil”

“See where we’ve been, won’t you hold my hand and stay awhile”

A Song For When You’re Mad: Nervous Breakdown – Palaye Royale: Okay we all know by now that I LOVE Palaye Royale. I honestly listen to them more than I give myself credit for.

Lyrics that hook me:

“Gonna have myself a little breakdown, a nervous breakdown”

“You say you love me, but you still left me, I guess that’s why I hate myself”

Song To Make You Feel Infinite: Forever – Chris Brown: This song is a major throwback for me… Even though I listen to music that’s from way before 2008. Forever brings back so many memories for me. Dancing to it at school dances, especially my eighth grade dance, during labor day weekend celebrations at my cabin. The song is literally called “Forever”, so how could I not feel infinite during it?

Lyrics that hook me:

“It’s like I’ve waited my whole life for this one night it’s gon’ be me you and the dance floor”

“’Cause we only got one night, double your pleasure, double your fun, and dance forever”

“It’s a long way down, we so high off the ground”

Song To Dance Around Your Room To: Gool – Ultra Q: Ending with this one for this somewhat-of-a-playlist. While this song also makes me feel infinite, I’ve danced to it quite a few times in my room, and also at concerts. This song is the meaning behind my tattoo. I have “I’m So Gool” with a skull and heart on the inside of my left arm. In the middle of 2019, I knew I wanted to get my first tattoo before the end of the year. I thought about getting Greta Van Fleet lyrics, but after seeing Ultra Q twice at the end of 2019, I knew it was the best idea to get those lyrics on me. What made it even better? I ended up getting it on Friday the 13th. So how would I describe the definition or meaning of Gool? Although it’s super hard to explain, my standard meaning is… Gool means you are who you are. Whatever that is. Whoever you are. Outcast. But whoever, wherever, whatever I am, I’ll always have the reminder… That I’m so gool. This song and band mean so much to me. Check them out.

Lyrics that hook me:

“Holding on to your sweet hands, for the first time, they’re off to punk rock shows”

“I’m so gool, lost my mind, I’m so gool, lost my mind”

This concludes the first “playlist-ish” that I’ve done. Who knows, maybe the next one will be longer. Or maybe not.
