LISTEN: Chesca Música Releases New Single "Mijita"
Singer-songwriter Chesca Música released her new single “Mijita” which is available everywhere now. The single serves as the artist’s debut Spanish single off her forthcoming bilingual album, slated for this April. Produced by Alex Arias (Cher, Santana, Kali Uchis, The Strumbellas, Rob Thomas), “Mijita” artfully fuses together electro-pop, EDM, R&B, with Latin sounds and rhythms.
Chesca Música has always marched to the beat of her own drum. After all, “Mijita” was inspired by the singer’s late grandmother who became the first female notary in Mexicali and was one of the only females in her class that graduated from law school in the early 1950s. Her grandmother’s graduation class photo from law school serves as a focal point for the single’s cover art.
“While writing this song I felt my grandmother’s spirit because she was a feminist that fought hard for her education in Mexico during a time when going to Law School in the early 1950’s as a woman was incredibly rare.”
Now the San Francisco-born, New York-bred, Mexican-American singer-songwriter wants to empower women to follow their dreams despite being a part of a system often stacked against them. In an industry often dominated by men to push a certain image, Chesca Música is going against the grain by creating her own lane of dreamy electro-pop that crosses borders and genres.
After releasing two studio albums in English, her previous singles have been played at New York Fashion Week, AVP Pro Beach Volleyball tournament, Crunch Fitness Club, Gap stores, and leading venues across New York City. Chesca Música has performed at leading venues such as Bowery Electric, Pianos, Heaven Can Wait, Parkside Lounge, Electric Room, FishBowl at Dream Midtown, and most recently at New York City’s famous DROM.
